Longtime collaborators Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason will wrap their popular run on Superman with the Superman Special #1, scheduled for release on May 16. The headlining story from the team is titled “The Promise,” and is a follow-up to the “Escape from Dinosaur Island” story that started in the Rebirth era in 2016’s Superman #8. Here’s the official description:

Before Superman’s world goes through some drastic changes, he has unfinished business to attend to on Dinosaur Island. Superman and the Losers’ Captain Storm take one final trip together into the abyss of tomorrow, which brings the military man out of time into the world of today.

The 48-page one-shot will also include stories from the unconventional teams of Mark Russell & Bryan Hitch and Ian Flynn & Kaare Andews.

Tomasi and Gleason’s time on Superman has been well-liked by fans, largely due to the focus on the family unit of Superman, Lois Lane and their child, Jonathan Kent/Superboy. The popularity of Jonathan Kent has led to his co-starring role in the Super Sons series, also written by Tomasi.

Dan Jurgens will end his Action Comics run with the Action Comics Special one-shot, written by Jurgens and illustrated by Will Conrad, also scheduled for May.
