Aquaman Test Screening Gets Positive Reactions

Though director James Wan continues to play coy about the release date of the first Aquaman trailer, it appears that an early test screening of the movie has received positive reactions.

According to a new report, Warner Bros. showed the film to select invitees on its studio lot and the reaction was a pleasant one. In the wake of the disappointing Justice League, this will come as good news for fans, as Wan’s film will be the next installment of the DC Extended Universe. Aquaman will address how Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry charts his way forward as King of Atlantis after fending off Steppenwolf and Apokolips’ forces in Justice League.

According to Batman-News, two sources said they “loved” the film and that “there’s tons of action but it’s a very emotional movie as well.” Aquaman was previously described as an underwater version of Star Wars, which will see Arthur deal with his Atlantean heritage and his relationships with Mera (Amber Heard) and her father King Nereus of Xebel. Aquaman will also have to keep a close eye on his traitorous brother Orm and nemesis Black Manta, who eyes his throne.

While the positive screening comes as an early relief, fans should keep in mind that Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League were all well-received at their test screenings as well, only to be critically-panned.

Arriving in theaters on Dec. 21, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temeura Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Ludi Lin, Michael Beach, Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.
