A new promo for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One has revealed another pop culture nod to the DC Comics universe with a brief shout-out to the Dark Knight. The latest extended look into the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s 2011 sci-fi novel swaps out the John Williams’-themed Clark Kent Easter egg for a scene involving the Caped Crusader climbing Mount Everest.
As Tye Sheridan’s Wade Watts narrates about going undercover in the virtual-reality simulator known as OASIS and the endless possibilities there, he stays, “You can climb Mount Everest with Batman.” The scene then depicts Batman with his grappling hooks actually scaling the snowy mount along with a couple users and their avatars.

Spielberg and Warner Bros. are certainly breaking out as many Easter eggs as they can, with fans already treated to nods to Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and King Kong. To that end, we should expect much more of these pop culture homages from the film’s marketing campaign as the film gears for release later this month.
Opening March 29, Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Samantha Cook/Art3mis, Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento, and Mark Rylance as James Halliday.
