Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants to Play Batman in Flashpoint Movie

There may be a host of “what-ifs?” surrounding Warner Bros.’ Flashpoint, but one thing is for certain: Jeffrey Dean Morgan would love to play Batman in the film.

When the studio announced last summer that its planned Flash solo movie had been renamed Flashpoint, speculation soon turned to whether Morgan might reprise his role as Bruce Wayne’s father Thomas Wayne from 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In DC Comics’ 2011 Flashpoint crossover event, Barry Allen races into the past in hopes of saving his mother, and in the process radically alters the timeline of the DC Universe. In this new reality, Thomas Wayne becomes Batman after his son’s murder.

Morgan, who stars as the villainous Negan on The Walking Dead, played coy about Flashpoint last fall. But in a new interview with Total Film, he makes clear his interest in donning the cape and cowl.

“We’ll see. I mean, look, DC is DC, and they’ll figure out what they’re going to do next,” he said. “But I’m highly aware of the character, I will say that. I’m highly aware of the character, and it would probably be a thrill of a lifetime to put on the Batsuit.”

Margon also touched on just why he finds the Flashpoint-specific Batman such an interesting role for him. “And what I know about the Flashpoint Batman is, you know, for me, I think he is not only the darkest of the Batmen, but the coolest,” he said. “And I love his whole storyline and who he is and the tortured soul of it all.”

Flashpoint stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and possibly Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Originally intended to hit theaters on March 16, 2018, when it was titled simply The Flash, the film has no announced release date. The movie will be directed by Jonathan Goldstien and John Francis Daley.
