Tezuka Osamu’s Dororo Gets New Anime Adaptation!

Tezuka Osamu’s unfinished fantasy manga Dororo will be getting a brand new anime adaptation.

Animation studio MAPPA, known for high profile projects such as Yuri!!! on Ice and In this Corner of the World, will team up with Tezuka Productions to bring Dororo into the anime world once again. Twin Engines is to produce the series, which will be streamed online exclusively by Amazon, with network broadcast details yet to be announced.

Set in the Sengoku era, the series follows the adventures of a ronin, Hyakkimaru, and an orphaned thief named Dororo. First published in 1967, the manga has previously been adapted into a TV anime in 1969 by Tezuka Productions, as well as a live action movie directed by Shiota Akihiro.
