The Arrowverse’s foremost time-traveling super-team is heading towards uncharted territory. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil Klemmer revealed that the newly-minted Season 4 of the series will involve villains that are more mythical in nature, as opposed to the more human threats we have seen so far.
In an interview with TVLine, Klemmer expanded on the series’ current demonic villain Mallus and what he will lead to next. “He is a sort of bellwether of bad guys to come in Season 4,” the showrunner said, indicating that his series will continue to evolve with the new occult-based elements it started utilizing in Season 3.

With the recent announcement that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine would be joining the cast as a series regular in Season 4, it appears that Klemmer can now let his series dabble into the mystical side of the DC Universe — and history as a whole. “Constantine is coming onto the show next season, so we want to go deeper, we want Mallus to be used as “the tip of the iceberg.” He is not human, and we want to start playing with the idea that Earth hasn’t always belonged just to our kind.”
After the likes of the immortal Vandal Savage, the time-traveling Legion of Doom and Damien Darhk, not to mention countless historical villains, Legends of Tomorrow is now set to explore a different side of history: “We want to get into the world of fantastic myths and monsters a bit more,” Klemmer teased. “It’s kind of presumptuous for anybody to think they have ownership of this Earth or any part of it.”
Clearly, Sara Lance and the rest of the Legends aren’t out of the woods yet — far from it.
