According to a new rumor, director J.J. Abrams will have Yoda return in Star Wars: Episode IX.
The rumor indicates that Yoda will return in reaction to the positive reception to Yoda’s surprise appearance in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It notes that, yet again, Yoda would appear as a Force Ghost, but this time alongside Rey, in the film’s direct sequel.
“The success of the scenes featuring Yoda in The Last Jedi were huge,” reports NY Daily News, which cites anonymous sources close to Abrams. “Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi. The scenes are due to be put together later this year.”

Yoda’s appearance in The Last Jedi, in which he was voiced by original puppeteer Frank Oz, was met with positive critical and fan reception. In the film, he’s briefly seen giving wisdom to a pessimistic Luke Skywalker, reassuring his former pupil that Rey is on the right path.
Episode IX is set to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2019. The movie will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron.
