Arrow Names Beth Schwartz as Showrunner for Season 7

The CW’s Arrow has named Beth Schwartz as executive producer of Season 7.

According to Deadline, longtime executive producer Wendy Mericle will exit the series, while executive producer and co-creator Marc Guggenheim will step back and become an executive consultant for both Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. This leaves Schwartz as the sole showrunner on Arrow and Phil Klemmer as the sole showrunner on Legends of Tomorrow.

Schwartz has been a part of Arrow since the show’s first season in 2012. She started out as a writers assistant and rose through the ranks as the series progressed. Before she was promoted to executive producer, she served as a Season 6 co-executive producer.

“We are all so incredibly thrilled to announce Beth Schwartz as the new showrunner of Arrow,” Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti said. “She has been a source of some of the show’s most exciting and memorable moments from the beginning. Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can’t wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.”

Arrow was renewed for a seventh season earlier this month. The series was the first in The CW’s Arrowverse, which includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Each of these shows takes place within the same universe (or, in the case of Supergirl, multiverse). Todd Helbing will remain showrunner on The Flash, while Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller will stay on as showrunners for Supergirl.

Starring Stephen Amell as the Emerald Archer, Arrow airs Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey and more. Season 6 will conclude on Thursday, May 17.
