Darth Vader’s Castle Getting Origin In Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics’ Darth Vader series has been cleverly filling in the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, painting the story of Anakin Skywalker’s early days as the Emperor’s right-hand man in the cinematic universe created by George Lucas. In the upcoming arc, fans will now get a chance to learn more about Vader’s famous fortress of solitude housed on the volcanic planet of Mustafar.

According to the series writer Charles Soule, once he wraps the current arc “Burning Seas” (which focuses on the Mon Cala and secret Jedi order uprising against the Empire), the next storyline will be called “Fortress Vader.”

Soule tweeted out the news, indicating he’ll be looking into how and why the Jedi-turned-Sith built this megalithic structure on the planet where Obi-Wan Kenobi left him burning to death. In some lighthearted online banter, Soule also addressed fans who felt the design was a rip-off of Sauron’s from the Lord of the Rings franchise, stating that Vader’s came first.

The castle was pushed into the mainstream world of Star Wars recently, as it made an appearance in Rogue One. In that film we saw Vader recuperating in his bacta-tank within the fortress and also where he intimidated Orson Krennic, the man who was tasked with keeping the Death Star project in motion and under wraps.

The fortress is something fans desperately want to learn more about, as it never appeared in Lucas’ original trilogy, thus allowing Soule and his art team yet another chance to add to the villain’s history.
