Marvel Studios’ biggest superhero blockbuster to date, Avengers: Infinity War, has no shortage of epic moments ripped straight from the pages of the comic book source material. However, according to Digital Domain VFX Supervisor Kelly Port, one moment that nearly made it to the big screen before the idea was scrapped was a panel-for-panel recreation of Thanos’ deadly finger-snap from the Infinity Gauntlet miniseries by Jim Starlin, Ron Lim and Geoge Perez.
“As a fun aside, we explored the idea of lifting the actual graphic from the frame of the comic showing the snap, the little yellow action triangles for a single frame of the moment of the snap,” Port told TheWrap. “They appreciated the idea but didn’t ultimately go for it.”

“Weirdly enough, you would think this particular shot… this particular critical moment, would have a tremendous amount of pressure and back and forth to get it just right, but it actually went pretty smoothly,” Port continued. “I asked the compositor on this particular shot how it felt to be working on one of the most important shots in Marvel history. A shot representing the culmination of ten years of story. No pressure!”
Nevertheless, while hardcore fans certainly would have appreciated such a visceral Easter egg, Infinity War‘s current dominance at the box office seems to indicate that the film is doing just fine as it stands.
