The screenwriter for The Fast and the Furious 9 was announced today. Kin writer Daniel Casey will pen the script for the ninth film in the Fast & Furious franchise, the penultimate title in the series that started with the release of The Fast and the Furious in 2001.
Casey writing Fast & Furious 9 will likely come as a surprise to fans of the franchise, as the screenwriter will be subbing in for series scribe Chris Morgan. Morgan has penned the script for every Fast & Furious movie since the 2006 fan-favorite The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

Morgan has not been sidelined, though. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the writer will continue work on the series in the form of the spinoff movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Little is known about the plot of the spinoff film, other than it will be helmed by Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch.
Fast & Furious 9 will be helmed by Justin Lin, who directed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth entries in the Fast & Furious franchise. Lin has a great deal on his plate right now, as he is reportedly still directing Space Jam 2 and a Hot Wheels movie adaptation. Fast & Furious 9 is slated for a 2020 release.
