Invincible Iron Man #600 Will Feature Forgotten X-Men Character Tempus

As Marvel celebrates the end of an era with the release later this month of Brian Michael Bendis’ final comic for the publisher, the writer promises to bring back a forgotten member of the X-Men in a big way.

For some time now, fans have known that Invincible Iron Man #600 will not only be a milestone for the title character, but will also end Bendis’ 17-year tenure with Marvel. The writer had already teased the tying together of several loose plot threads, but forgotten mutant Eva Bell is now confirmed to play a part.

One Twitter user asked Bendis whether Bell would ever appear again in comics, prompting the surprise response that she will get her time to shine in Invincible Iron Man #600.

Bell was introduced in 2013 by Bendis and artist Stuart Immonen in All-New X-Men #1 as an Australian teenager struggling with her ability to control time. Eventually adopting the alias Tempus, Bell became a powerful Alpha-level mutant and spent some seven years trapped in the year 2099. Despite gathering a loyal following among readers, Bell eventually got the reputation of being “too powerful” for the writers to use, and has been missing in action since Secret Wars.

Bendis promised in 2016 that Eva would return one day, so what better place for Tempus to pop up again than his final Marvel issue? There will undoubtedly be a lot of elements packed into Invincible Iron Man #600, which will solve the mystery of where Tony Stark has been while also wrapping up the current arcs of Victor Von Doom and Riri Williams.

The synopsis for the issue teased that readers will get to find out about the future of all these characters. However, the inclusion of Bell and her time-travel abilities could offer a look at what is to come for the trio.

Invincible Iron Man #600 goes on sale May 23.
