The planned film would be the third big-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s classic, following 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder, and 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp.
Paddington 2 director Paul King was in talks to helm the project from a script by Simon Rich (Inside Out), although a release date has yet to be announced. The new movie is rumored to be an origin story for Wonka, showing how the chocolatier acquired his fantastical candy factory, the beginnings of his partnership with the Oompa Loompas, and how he devised such popular confections.

Glover is fresh off Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, while Gosling and Miller have a recent history of working with Warner Bros. on Blade Runner: 2049 and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, respectively. Miller’s role in the Fantastic Beasts films further links the actor with producer David Heyman, who’s producing the Willy Wonka reboot.
With three fan-favorite actors rumored to be in running for Dahl’s most iconic character, the upcoming film is sure to have some serious Hollywood star power behind it.
