Peter Jackson Denies Involvement with the DCEU

A rumor started to circulate last month that Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson was preparing to take on the DC Universe. However, Jackson has now shot down the rumor, making a point to note that he’s not even a fan of comics.

Speaking with French publication Allocine, Jackson denied any interest in joining the DCEU. “That’s not true,” Jackson said. “I had no discussions about that. I’m not a fan of comics, I’ve never read any, so I’m not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That’s not true at all.”

The rumor also suggested that Jackson may be considering a return to Middle Earth with Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series — or he may not. Allocine originally reported Jackson indicated that despite a phone call with Amazon about the series, he won’t be involved. “A DC film and the Lord of the Rings series, they’re being done without me,” Jackson said. “But I’m happy. I have plenty of other projects that take up my time!”

However, a subsequent story on IGN featured a quote from Jackson stating that while he’s not involved in the day to day work on the series, he is helping Amazon put together its creative team.

Jackson’s next project is an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s 2001 novel, Mortal Engines. Directed by Christian Rivers from a script by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, Mortal Engines stars Robert Sheehan as Tom Natsworthy, Hera Hilmar as Hester Shaw, Stephen Lang as Chrysler Peavy, Hugo Weaving as Thaddeus Valentine, Colin Salmon as Chudleigh Pomeroy and Ronan Raftery as Bevis Pod. The film opens Dec. 14.
