Judd Apatow Calls for Blanket Fox Boycott

Filmmaker Judd Apatow today called for readers of his Twitter feed to boycott all Fox products in response to a video that collected soundbites from Fox New anchors and contributors deemphasizing the impact of the immigrant family separation crisis in the United States.

The crisis arose from U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ order in April that prosecutors should adopt a zero tolerance policy to illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border, according to NPR. The new policy established that families crossing the border would be separated, which led to the creation of various facilities housing immigrant children who had been removed from their parents’ care. The policy was described as a deterrent.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, roughly 2,342 children have been separated from their families since May. On Wednesday, United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order reversing the family separation order. Families will now be kept together while they are detained, but the new order also disregards the legal time limits set for the detention of minors.

Apatow is best know for reviving the raunchy, R-rated comedy genre in the early ’00s with films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, among others. Apatow has not worked with Fox since 2002.
