Dark Phoenix Figures Showcase New Costume Designs

Nearly four months after a leaked photo from the set of X-Men: Dark Phoenix offered the first glimpse of the team’s new costumes, images of collectible figures for the Fox sequel showcase their Frank Quitely-inspired designs.

If there was any lingering doubt before that the suits draw from Quitely’s work on Marvel’s New X-Men, paired with writer Grant Morrison, these latest images should take care of that. The blue leather (or leather-like) costumes are tailored in much the same way as those from the comics, with the bold yellow X covering the chests and shoulders of Jean Grey, Scott Summers and Hank McCoy.

Somewhat ironically, Morrison’s idea to ditch the traditional Spandex costumes in favor of something more closely resemble biker gear was viewed by some readers as an attempt to mimic Fox’s 2000 X-Men film, which premiered the year before the launch of New X-Men. Now, however, everything appears to be coming full circle, with the 1990s-set Dark Phoenix drawing from an early-2000s comics run.
