Peyton Reed Has Always Wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to Play Wasp

Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed has wanted Michelle Pfeiffer in the Ant-Man franchise since the first film.

“We used a double on the first movie. But the whole thing was, ‘I want her to look like Michelle Pfeiffer, because that would be my dream casting for Wasp,’” Reed told The Hollywood Reporter. “We cast this woman to be in the mask who had really saucer-like, Michelle Pfeiffer eyes.”

As fate would have it, Reed would indeed go on to hire the actor as the wife of genius inventor Hank Pym for the sequel. In the first film, the Wasp was limited to a cameo in her suit with her helmet on, in a flashback to the day Pym lost her to the Quantum Realm after she went sub-atomic to stop a Soviet missile.

Now, Pfeiffer — who actually had to be convinced to take up a role in the sequel — will help the original Wasp get her time in the limelight via the Ant-Man and the Wasp, with the follow-up focusing on Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne’s quest to find her in the microverse.

In theaters this Friday, Ant-Man and the Wasp stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, Hannah John-Kamen, Randall Park and Walton Goggins.
