Amazon’s The Boys Casts Starr, McElligott & More

Amazon’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys has cast five more members of The Seven, the most prestigious superhero team in that world.

Deadline reports that Anthony Starr (American Gothic), House of Card‘s Dominique McElligott, Gossip Girl alum Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) and iZombie actor Nathan Mitchell have been cast in the series. They join Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones), who was previously cast as Starlight/Annie January.

Starr is set to play The Homelander, the leader of The Seven who is also the most powerful superhuman in the world. McElligott will appear as longtime Seven member Queen Maeve, whose powers include super strength, flight and durability. Crawford is set to portray The Deep, aka the King of the Seas, who is known to wear a helmet that cannot be removed due to an Atlantean curse. Usher will play A-Train, a speedster said to be faster than a speeding train. Mitchell will fill the role of Black Noir, a master martial artist who is almost always shown in shadow with his face concealed.

Dynamite Entertainment’s The Boys, which ran for 72 issues from 2008 to 2012, depicted a world where superheroes had become amoral celebrities that often engaged in destructive and selfish behavior. The Boys are a CIA squad that keeps those heroes in check, taking them out permanently if need be.

The series will be helmed by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and long-time collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Amazon’s eight-episode series adaptation is set to debut in early 2019.
