Warner Bros. may have used the bulk of its massive Comic-Con International presentation to showcase Wonder Woman 1984, Shazam! and Aquaman, but those are not the only DC Films the studio has in development. Far from it, in fact. Over recent weeks, we’ve heard rumblings that a Birds of Prey movie starring Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress and Cassandra Cain was a priotiy for DC — and that’s not all. A solo Batgirl movie has been something that’s been discussed for a good while now.
When director Joss Whedon was brought on-board the production of Justice League to take over for Zack Snyder, it was said that the director was already in talks to make a Batgirl movie next. However, that project eventually fell through, with Whedon backing out of the film. Following that, it was believed that the movie was no longer a priority for the studio.
However, that didn’t prove to be the case: in early April, it was confirmed that the studio had tapped Bumblebee screenwriter Christina Hodson to pen a script for Batgirl.

Now, we have further proof that the movie is gaining traction at Warner Bros. thanks to a new rumor that shines some light on what type of actress the studio is looking for to bring Barbara Gordon to life. This new rumor, which surfaced online Sunday, states that Warner Bros. is looking for a Kristen Stewart-type to play Batgirl.
“At WB they described the kind of actress they want for Barbara Gordon as “Kristen Stewart prototype,”” the tweet from the Los Angeles-based Daniel R read. “So I guess they really want her to play Babs… (In her solo movie, cuz she’s not in Birds of Prey AT ALL).”

The tweet seems to imply that Stewart herself is the studio’s primary choice for the role. However, if an agreement can’t be reached and she comes to turn down the role, another actress of her ilk is what Warner Bros. is looking for in its Batgirl.
However, what this tweet seems to solidify is the rumor that Barbara Gordon will have no part to play in Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey film. If that is the case, then we could be looking at one movie leading to the next — if they are set in the same continuity, that is.

The Batgirl movie does not have a director attached yet. With a script by Christina Hodson, the movie is set to feature Barbara Gordon as the newest protector of Gotham City. As of this writing, the film has no expected release date.
