Despite a rumor surfacing online on Wednesday morning, CBR can confirm that Joss Whedon is still set to write and direct a Batgirl movie for Warner Bros., according to an individual with knowledge of the current situation.
After worrying reviews and a disappointing box office opening for Justice League, it’s not too difficult to see why the rumor gained traction once it found its way online. Zack Snyder, who originally helmed the film, had to step down during production on the latest installment of the DC Extended Universe, which led Whedon to step in and carry out reshoots to complete the film.

According to the source, Whedon is currently working on the Batgirl script. He will direct the movie once it’s ready. The yet-to-be-titled Batgirl flick will reportedly follow the New 52 version of Barbara Gordon; more specifically, it will draw inspiration from Gail Simone’s 2011 run on the character, which sees the character regain the use of her legs after a terrible accident.
Little is known about Whedon’s Batgirl film. A previous report pegged Batgirl as one of the next DCEU films to enter production, alongside Shazam! and Justice League Dark, but that is not confirmed at this time.
