Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Clare Kramer: ‘Nobody Wants a Reboot’

Buffy the Vampire alum Clare Kramer believes no one really wants a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, a la Charmed and Roswell. Kramer, who portrayed one-half of the villainous Glory/Ben duo, was quick to shoot down the idea of a potential reboot, going on to say that she thinks no one really wants such a thing.

“I think people are interested in what is happening with it but I don’t think true Buffy fans want it unless it’s with the original cast, which I don’t think will happen,” she explained to Australia’s News. “I could be wrong, so people should come find me on Twitter and correct me if I’m wrong.”

Although a reboot has never officially been announced, there has been plenty of interest, especially on Fox’s behalf. However, there’s one tiny caveat stopping Fox from giving it a greenlight: the network will only reboot the series if Joss Whedon is involved. Still, as Kramer notes, it’s understandable that fans are curious regarding any and all reboot rumors, even though there are no current plans to bring back the Slayer.

Of course, there’s also the fact that the series used mythology to properly explore the horrors of growing up and, as series star Sarah Michelle Gellar herself previously said, trying to make that work as Buffy goes about adulthood could prove to be difficult.

“When you have a property that’s as popular as Buffy, something will be done with it,” Kramer added. “I think would take something special, I think it would have to be done with Joss and with Sarah [Michelle Gellar]. I don’t know what the story would be. It has to change yet remain true and loyal to the show’s original values, morals and tone.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, created by Joss Whedon, premiered on March 10, 1997 and aired for seven seasons. The show starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as the titular hero, as well as Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head and Nicholas Brendon.
