Deadpool 2’s Ryan Reynolds on Mid-Credits Scene: ‘That’s Cheating!’

Deadpool is known for taking some risks, but even the actor who plays the character with scary accuracy, Ryan Reynolds, thought one of the mid-credit scenes in Deadpool 2 was “cheating.”

Reynolds, who spent years trying to make a Deadpool movie after the dud that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has played the lead character in the two movies, but has also earned a writing credit for the sequel. Reynolds told the Empire Podcast that he was a little hesitant about using Cable’s time-traveling device to save Deadpool’s girlfriend, Vanessa, in a mid-credits scene.

“I was like ‘No, we can’t bring Vanessa back! That’s cheating!’ Reynolds said. But once he came to grips with that, he realized that the team could do a lot more with the device. They also brought back Peter — a lovable member of the X-Force who died horribly in the film — and killed the Origins version of Deadpool, along with Reynolds himself just before he reads the script for Green Lantern.

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, Julian Dennison as Russell and Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy.
