Deadpool Animated Series Will Be Different From Film

Back in May, when FX announced that Deadpool would join the network as an animated television series, many assumed that the show would mirror Ryan Reynolds’ live-action representation that made the character more widely-recognized and popular than ever. However, according to FX head John Landgraf, that won’t be the case. During the 2017 Television Critics Association press tour, Landgraf revealed that the cartoon’s vision for the Merc with a Mouth will be drastically different than the cinematic version.

Deadpool will be really different from the movies,” Landgraf explained, per ScreenRant. “It has a different tone and editorial voice. [We] wanted to make something distinctly different from the movies.”

One of the premiere voices spearheading the series is Atlanta and Han Solo star Donald Glover, who — along with his brother Stephen — is serving as writer and executive producer on the series. Currently slated for a ten-episode first season, Deadpool will be the network’s second collaboration with Marvel Television, with Noah Hawley’s Legion also currently in pre-production ahead of its sophomore season.

Created in 1991 by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool has not only been a mainstay of Marvel comic books, but also a somewhat regular in Marvel’s various animated projects over the years, with appearances on X-Men: The Animated Series, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk Vs Wolverine. No release date has yet been announced for the Deadpool animated series.
