Funimation to Add Robotech TV Series, Films to Catalog – News

Funimation announced on Monday that it is adding Harmony Gold’s Robotech television series, the Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles feature film, and the Robotech II: The Sentinels film to its catalog. Funimation‘s new license from Kew Media Distribution includes worldwide rights outside Japan. The rights include video on demand, electronic sell-through, home entertainment, and merchandising.

Robotech was Harmony Gold’s edited and rewritten 1985 adaptation of three separate anime science-fiction series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. The series is streaming on Crackle, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. The 2006 Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles film was a U.S.-produced sequel to the television series.

ADV Films and A&E Networks Home Entertainment released the 1985 series on DVD in North America. Harmony Gold launched a Kickstarter campaign for a Robotech Academy pilot in July 2014, which was eventually cancelled.

Sony is planning a live-action Robotech film.
