Gotham has been teasing the appearance of Harley Quinn on the show for a long time. Now, at the show’s New York Comic Con panel, showrunner John Stephens has given the most blatant tease yet.
“[Jeremiah] has a somewhat deranged girlfriend who dresses in a multi-colored fashion. I wouldn’t describe it as a healthy relationship, but there’s a meeting of minds,” Stephens teased at the panel. “She likes roller skates.”

This is far from the first time Gotham has toyed around with the prospect of Harleen Quinzel making a grand entrance, of course. There was a time when viewers believed Barbara Kean would turn into the series’ version of Harley, especially after she was used as a stage-assistant of sorts to Jerome’s proto-Joker. Jeremiah, to whom Stephens made reference, is Gotham‘s version of the Joker, though he won’t actually be referred to as such.
Harley Quinn first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series before making her way to the comics. The immensely popular character is currently played by Margot Robbie in the DC Extended Universe. Exactly how Gotham will handle Quinn and her backstory is unknown at this time.
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. It is reportedly scheduled to return on Fox for its fifth and final season on March 15, 2019.
