John Cena Confirmed For Duke Nukem Movie

John Cena is set to play Duke Nukem and chew bubblegum — and he’s all out of bubblegum.

The legacy pro wrestler has officially stepped into the trash-talking shoes of Duke Nukem for the upcoming live-action film, according to producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

“Yeah, that’s what we’re working with now,” the producers told Cinemablend while promoting their latest film A Quiet Place, starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. “He is. Yes. We don’t have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn’t like the script I’m sure there’s ways that he could pull out, but right now he’s our guy.”

“We are working on Duke Nukem right now. It’s going to be about tone. That’s about tone,” they pair continued. “How do you nail that tone in the way that Deadpool nailed the tone? I think we have to do that and if we don’t get the tone right then we’re not going to make the movie.”

Duke Nukem still has no writers or director attached to the project, but Paramount said in January that the search was to begin soon.

The Duke Nukem video games first launched back in July 1991 from Apogee Software Ltd. and centered on Duke, the titular character, a muscular, cigar-chomping figure, as he set out to protecting humanity from alien invaders in his own signature style. The character has also appeared in comics from IDW Publishing.
