My Hero Academia Live-Action Movie Announced

Get ready to go Plus Ultra at the theaters, because Legendary Pictures is working on a live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia. Created by Kohei Horikoshi in 2014, the popular superhero manga has sold over 17 million copies worldwide while its anime adaptation has become a global sensation over three seasons.

My Hero Academia is set in a world where most of the human population has developed superpowers, or Quirks, of some kind. The lead character Izuku “Deku” Midoriya is one of the rare Quirkless until a chance meeting with the greatest hero in the world, All Might, lands him a Quirk and a spot at UA High, Japan’s premiere hero school. He and the rest of his classmates become embroiled in a fight against supervillains while learning to master their Quirks and become heroes. The series anime recently concluded its third season, with a promise of the fourth season “coming soon,” and only recently hit over 200 chapters published.

My Hero Academia is one of the recent mangas to get a live-action adaptation; Bleach received a film on Netflix earlier this year, and beloved manga Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note have as well. Earlier this year, My Hero Academia received an animated movie that became one of the top 10 highest grossing domestic anime films of all time with over $5.7 million at the box office.

Legendary Pictures’ My Hero Academia does not yet have a release date.
