“It was such a joy shooting [2009’s Watchmen],” he told Yahoo! Movies UK, “I wanted there to be more of them.”

However, Wilson was quick to note he hasn’t spoken about the possibility with HBO or showrunner Damon Lindelof. “There’s never been one conversation,” he said. “I’m sure they want to stay as far away from us as possible, but I love Damon Lindelof. I’m so excited to see what they will do. I’d love to play [Nite Owl] now but no there’s been no talk, I’m just a fan like you are.”

Based on the seminal 1986 DC Comics series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen details an alternate timeline in which superheroes first emerged in the 1940s, drastically altering the course of history. Set in 1985, at the height of the Cold War, the comic centers on the investigation into the murder of the former costumed government agent the Comedian, which leads to the discovery of a deadly conspiracy intended to bring peace to the world at the expense of millions of lives.

DC Comics has revisited the Watchmen characters, first in the 2012 Before Watchmen series, and currently as part of its Rebirth initiative and Doomsday Clock event.

HBO has ordered the pilot for the television adaptation, as well as additional scripts. Although there has been no news about casting or production dates, the cable network is aiming for the series to premiere in 2019.

Whether or not he returns to Watchmen, Wilson will stay in the superhero game with a starring role as Prince Orm, aka Ocean Master, in Warner Bros.’ Aquaman.
