Fate/Grand Order, a spinoff to popular visual novel Fate/stay night, is a smartphone game in which players take on the role of Master and summon Servants to fight in the Holy Grail War, a enormous battle royale. Centred around traditional turn-based combat, the game also has a visual novel component in which the player can explore each Servant’s individual character arc.
Now celebrating its third anniversary, the game has grown exponentially since its launch. At “Fate/Grand Order Fes. 2018 -3rd Anniversary-”, a special event held to mark the occasion, Type-Moon released an epic five-minute video breaking down the essentials of the franchise and introducing its most important characters.
To mark its anniversary, Fate/Grand Order is also running a number of special in-game campaigns including a third anniversary “memorial quest” which rewards players with a limited edition outfit when cleared. A login bonus plus a series of special Servant training quests are also available.
Outside of the game, Fate/Grand Order is getting not only a TV anime but also a two-part anime movie. Clover Works will produce the TV anime, to be based on the game’s “Order VII: The Absolute Frontline in the War Against the Demonic Beasts: Babylonia” arc. Meanwhile, Production I.G will produce the movies, which will adapt the “Order VI: The Sacred Round Table Realm: Camelot” storyline.
The game is also set to head back to the stage with a new show adapting the game’s Babylonia storyline, set in 2655 BC – the last time humanity and the gods co-existed.
To cap it all off, the second movie of the Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy has confirmed its opening date in Japan for Jan. 12, 2019.
With three years behind Fate/Grand Order, there’s certainly plenty more of the Fate universe for fans to enjoy!
