SDCC 2017 Sunday Schedule

Comic-Con International in San Diego has released its schedule for Sunday, July 23. This means attendees can officially plan out their must-sees for the entire five-day affair and Sunday’s top events include Marvel Animation’s premiere of Marvel’s Spider-Man, a discussion with Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm, and various events celebrating the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Saturday at SDCC may be when major studios make their announcements and presentations, but Sunday is the shorter day perfect for long-time fans of popular fandoms such as Supernatural and the BBC’s Doctor Who, both of which have Hall H panels at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm respectively.

Marvel Animation’s premiere of Marvel’s Spider-Man at Comic-Con comes ahead of its August 17 Disney XD release date and will include a panel in Room 6A at 10:15 am with Cort Lane (SVP of Animation and Family Entertainment at Marvel) and Kevin Shinick (Supervising Producer of Marvel’s Spider-Man) and more than likely an appearance by the voice of Peter Parker, Robbie Daymond.

For its 25th anniversary, Bruce Timm will be discussing Batman: The Animated Series and his career in animation in Room 7AB at 11:00 am, including a Q&A. His latest animated film, Batman and Harley Quinn, premieres the Friday previous at the convention. Also celebrating an anniversary is Buffy the Vampire Slayer at 20-years-old. There are several events celebrating the show including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Two Decades With Feeling, A 20th Anniversary Celebration” in Room 7AB at noon that features Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman (co-authors of The Fifty-Year Mission) discussing the show’s lasting impact and promising “surprise guests.” At 3:15 pm fans can head to Room 6BCF for an interactive showing of the Buffy musical episode “Once More With Feeling.”

Other potential draws laid out in Sunday’s schedule are a panel for the adaptation series for Stephen King’s novel, Mr. Mercedes in Room 8 at 1:30 pm including the show’s creative team, as well as a panel for Lumberjanes in Room 25ABC at 10:00 am that includes the writers and artists. Fans of Princess Leia can join a tribute in Room 6DE at 10:00 am for the late Carrie Fisher and the women working in Marvel share their experiences working on the creative side at the “Women of Marvel” panel in Room 6DE at 12:30 pm. Superfans of Harry Potter can also hear a discussion about what new entries in the film, stage, and amusement park world mean to the fandom at “Fantastic Fans and Where to Find Them” in Room 6BCF at 2:00 pm.

Sunday at SDCC is a great day to take advantage of vendor sales at the expo and provides plenty of panels, discussions, and workshops that should keep attendees returning for the final day of the convention. Comic-Con International in San Diego begins with a preview night Wednesday, July 19 and continues through Sunday, July 23.
