The Mandalorian Starts Production; First Image & Directors Revealed

Production on the first-ever live-action Star Wars is now underway.

In a late evening post, Lucasfilm announced the start of production on Star Wars: The Mandalorian, the live-action series that hails from Iron Man director Jon Favreau. As Favreau previously revealed, the series takes place after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It will tell the story of a new hero who will rise within the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm also released the first official still from production, which can be found below.

Favreau, who will serve as the executive producer on the project, will write the series. Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) will direct the first episode, while additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

Filoni, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, will also serve as producers on the series alongside Favreau, and Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.
