Venom Will Take Second Weekend at Box Office

Venom is set for another marvelous weekend, as the Tom Hardy-led film is expected to top the box office yet again, beating out A Star is Born and newcomer First Man.

Current estimates have Venom on track to earn $31.7 million this weekend, while the critically-acclaimed A Star is Born is expected to pull in $29.6 million. However, estimates are also predicting that the two films could find themselves in a photo-finish when all is said and done. After all, word of mouth continues to build for the latter as Oscar talk continues to surround the feature. Still, Venom has already earned over $244 million at the worldwide box office, making it likely to recoup its estimated $450 million production costs and increasing the chances of a follow-up film.

As for newcomers at the box office, the Ryan Gosling-led First Man, which is also receiving plenty of critical praise, looks to be settling for third place with $16.8 million. It’s being reported that Universal, the studio behind the film, is hoping the flick will go on to build buzz in coming weeks, helping to increase the film’s take at the box office. However, going up against Venom and A Star is Born may make that more difficult.

In fourth place is the Goosebumps sequel, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, which is eyeing $15.7 million. That’s considerably lower than the first film’s $23.6 million opening, although the budget for the sequel was only $35 million. And, finally, in fifth place is newcomer Bad Times at the El Royale, which looks to be settling for a $7.9 million opening.
