Walter Simonson, Paula Andrade Art from Frank Miller’s Xerxes

Later this spring, Frank Miller returns to the world of 300 with his long in the works Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander miniseries, written and illustrated by Miller, and colored by Alex Sinclair.

Each issue of Dark Horse Comics’ Xerxes will include a bonus “pin-up” illustration by a notable artist, and CBR has the first look at the initial. Issue #1 will feature art by Paula Andrade, an Argentinian artist who contributed to Archaia Entertainment’s The God Machine and has gained a following on DeviantArt. Issue #2 features an illustration by Walter Simonson (colored by Sinclair), the legendary Thor writer and artist who collaborated with Miller in 1992’s Robocop Versus The Terminator, published by Dark Horse.

“There are pivotal figures that alter the course of history,” Miller told CBR of the historical inspiration behind Xerxes. “Xerxes is one. He reformatted the world, and his empire was, at the time, unimaginably vast. It really looked like the House of Darius was to rule the world for all time. Then the Macedonians and Alexander came along and changed the rule.”
